Texas’s first-ever Starbucks to close after nearly 30 years of business

The original Starbucks in Highland Park Village, a luxe shopping destination in Dallas, is closing its doors after nearly 30 years of caffeinating the city. This location was the first Starbucks in the entire state of Texas, and it arrived just in time to fuel the caffeine-driven 90s.

Despite the swanky setting, this Starbucks became a beloved spot for locals to grab a latte, catch up with friends, and generally chill out. While we don’t know what’s replacing it, we do know that the last coffee order will be placed in February when the lease is up. This means that coffee fanatics will still have a few months to savor at least.

today also marks the day when a Milwaukee Starbucks branch also closed down after nearly 20 years. Furthermore, this is also located in a similar venue to Highland Park Village. This could be a coincidence or it could indicate a new strategic era for Starbucks which may be pivoting toward new locations based on smaller square footage and more convenient access to customers.

Regardless of your thoughts on Starbucks and its corporate image, it’s still an iconic store as it was literally the first in the state. Because of this, it isn’t just any old Starbucks closing down, as this one served a community for decades. Clearly, times are changing.
