The Asheville Design Review Committee has granted its approval for two recently proposed hotel projects. One of these is the Tempo by Hilton, which is slated to be located at 22 Carter Street. This six-story hotel is set to accommodate 115 rooms for guests.

Meanwhile, the French Broad Hotel comprises two distinct facilities situated at 19 South French Broad Avenue and will offer 15 guest rooms. In the case of the Courtyard by Marriott, it received an initial informal evaluation.

Members of the committee expressed the importance of considering the local community in the design and planning of these projects. The Courtyard by Marriott, once approved, will introduce an additional 115 hotel rooms to the city of Asheville. As for the two larger hotel projects, they will require approval from the Planning and Zoning Committee before proceeding. However, the smaller French Broad Hotel has received the green light to advance to the permitting and construction phases.

Interestingly, Councilor Turner mentioned that six hotels were in the pipeline around Carter St. during the last council meeting. In recent years, Asheville has become an AirBnB hub. Now it looks as though hotels are trying to cash in on this tourism boom.
