Throughout the years, residents of Louisville have become quite familiar with the notorious ‘Can Opener’ bridge, a structure that has become infamous for its tendency to ensnare unsuspecting vehicles. This peculiar phenomenon typically unfolds when oversized trucks, daring their fate, attempt to pass beneath the bridge despite their height exceeding the clearance. It’s from these misjudgments that the bridge has earned its colorful moniker.

Recently, a huge white delivery truck became the latest casualty, becoming wedged under the bridge. Regrettably, it’s safe to assume that this won’t be the last incident of its kind. The ‘Can Opener’ bridge, situated near the University of Louisville on 3rd Street, has evolved into a source of local humor and legend over the years, with playful and enthusiastic residents contributing countless memes and stories to its unique folklore.

What’s particularly intriguing is that a Facebook page dedicated to this phenomenon has amassed a substantial following of nearly 11,000 members. The page is aptly described as a forum for sharing images and anecdotes of truck drivers attempting to navigate the viaduct and inevitably failing. It’s affectionately referred to as the ‘Louisville Can Opener’ on 3rd Street.
