Jersey City Whole Foods to open on November 9th

For the residents of Jersey City, the anticipation of Whole Foods’ arrival has felt like a prolonged journey. The news of the organic retailer’s impending presence on Washington Street emerged in October 2020, but progress on the project has been relatively slow. However, there’s promising news for food enthusiasts: in April, new signage appeared at the 286 Washington Street location, and by August, Whole Foods had posted job listings for their upcoming Jersey City branch.

Now, it has been confirmed that Jersey City’s Whole Foods will open on November 9th. This is direct from the Whole Foods website.

Whole Foods is set to occupy around 47,542 square feet of space, formerly home to HopsScotch and Five Guys. Moreover, the grocery store will establish its new Northeast headquarters within the confines of the 10-story building.

The introduction of Whole Foods to Jersey City is expected to generate a level of excitement among locals akin to the enthusiasm that greeted the opening of Trader Joe’s on Willow Avenue in Hoboken back in May 2017.

This will mark the second Whole Foods store in Hudson County, with the first location having opened in Weehawken’s Lincoln Harbor in July 2019. The inaugural store brought a wealth of fresh produce from more than 50 local producers, including names like D’Ottavio Farms, Hepworth Farms, and Ark Foods. It also featured products from local bakeries such as Balthazar Bakery, Abe Muffins, and Om Sweet Home.

Upon its launch, Whole Foods Jersey City is expected to create approximately 400 job opportunities in the area.
