Jersey City Whole Foods finally set to open next month

October 1, 2023 by No Comments

The forthcoming arrival of Whole Foods in Jersey City has evoked a wide range of sentiments over the years since it was first proposed, but it appears that local residents will have the opportunity to visit the store themselves before the conclusion of 2023.

The journey of bringing Whole Foods to Jersey City has been quite an odyssey. Dating back to 2017, a redevelopment agreement aimed at bringing the grocery store to the city had fallen through, and the location was a substantial Downtown property.

Signs indicating a potential opening in 2023 began to surface during the summer, primarily through job listings. However, the most definitive timeline to date has now been revealed in a recently released real estate brochure from Newmark.

Newmark is now responsible for leasing the office space at Harborside 6, and they list a “November 2023” opening for Whole Foods, although an exact date has not been explicitly specified.

While the construction of the Jersey City market has undoubtedly been a lengthy process, it was not without its challenges. Whole Foods has been retrofitting space formerly occupied by two restaurants, amalgamating 25,000 square feet on the first two floors along the building’s west side and extending retail usage into the first level of the building’s parking deck.

Consequently, the forthcoming market will encompass an expansive 47,000 square feet. To facilitate a new loading dock for the market, Pearl Street, situated between Greene and Washington streets, has been converted into a one-way street.

When Jersey City’s Whole Foods finally opens its doors, it will mark the second location in Hudson County, following the Weehawken market in Lincoln Harbor.
