Entire roof gets ripped off house during torrential storm

The past few days have undoubtedly posed challenges for Austin residents, as the city grappled with severe storms and hail stones that have profoundly altered the local landscape. Consequently, certain areas of the city have been displaced, resulting in some rather unusual and unexpected scenes.

Arguably the most striking example of this phenomenon can be observed at Eastside by the Airport/12th, where a house lost its entire roof. As you can imagine, this would be a bizarre and unsettling scene to take place if you were in the home at the time. Similarly, if you came back from work to find your house missing its roof then this would also be worrying. Not only this but parts of the wooden beams were also destroyed in the process.

The image was originally uploaded to Reddit by an Austin local. Here, they also showed pictures of entire holes going through their ceilings, which may have been caused by the giant hail stones after the roof had blown away. Thankfully, they updated others, claiming that no one was hurt during the ordeal. Luckily for the resident, it also turns out that they were a renter. Nonetheless, this is definitely the definition of a landlord’s nightmare!

Interestingly, one Redditor also suggested that this was the result of shoddy craftsmanship, rather than the impact of the storm. Here they wrote: “This is a clear case of the framers decking the roof, nailing the corners temporarily, and forgetting/neglecting to come back and nail the plywood off properly. No amount of Simpson brackets will help that.” Regardless, hopefully this gets sorted quickly as it can’t be nice living in a house without a roof.
