Gavin Newsom accused of double standards of gun law stance

California Governor, Gavin Newsom has long been a critic of America’s gun laws. This was highlighted recently on his Twitter account when he made a plea to change the country’s laws after the Iowa school shooting. This tweet gained over 11,000 replies with many of them accusing him of hypocrisy and weak policies.

Newsom began the conversation by writing: ‘Extremist judges have overturned CA’s gun law and are insisting that guns be allowed at our playgrounds, libraries, and hospitals. Seriously. This is exactly why we need to pass a US Constitutional Amendment that will put in place common-sense reforms like:- Universal background checks – A ban on assault weapons – Raising the age to purchase a gun to 21. Until then, judges across the country will continue to rip away the progress we have made — leaving nothing but carnage behind them. It’s sickening.’

Replying to this, one user named Matthew Kolken said: “Are guns allowed on your security detail when you go to playgrounds, libraries, and hospitals for photo-ops? Why is your life more important than ours?”

Elsewhere, another user named Kevin Dalton added: “You have flooded California with felons that don’t care about your common sense gun laws. Stop punishing law-abiding citizens for your failed policies.”

These were just two of thousands of replies who were critical of Newsom’s comments however many of them reflected similar themes. While Newsom may be very passionate with his anti-gun stance, it looks as though many people disagree.
