Whole Foods Market, the upscale grocery retailer, is slated to be the anchor tenant of a major new development in Bakersfield, California.

Sage Investco, the property developer based in Newport Beach, announced on Thursday that Whole Foods will occupy the central position within the proposed 25-acre shopping center at the southwest corner of Coffee Road and Rosedale Highway. This prominent location positions Whole Foods to attract significant foot traffic and serve as a key draw for the anticipated tenant mix.

The overall development, encompassing approximately 250,000 square feet, is planned to offer a diverse range of amenities, including fitness facilities, coffee shops, and banking services, alongside additional retail and restaurant businesses. Sage Investco has not yet disclosed the full list of tenants, but the planned mix emphasizes convenience and caters to the evolving needs of the local community.

Founded in Austin in 1980, Whole Foods started out as a single store selling natural and organic foods, and has since grown to become a leading retailer of natural and organic products with over 500 stores across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Whole Foods is known for its focus on high-quality, healthy, and sustainably sourced products, with a wide selection of organic produce, meat, seafood, dairy, and grocery items. The company also offers a range of prepared foods, including hot and cold deli items, bakery goods, and grab-and-go meals.
