Courthouse Seafood Market announces permanent closure next week

January 5, 2024 by No Comments

Cambridge’s Courthouse Seafood Market has announced its impending closure. This was not mentioned on their social media pages but was instead communicated by signs displayed throughout the store. The image below was photographed on the door of a fridge.

Here, the announcement read: ‘Dear valued customers, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your years of support and patronage at the fish market. It is with a heavy heart we share that our fish market will be closing on January 13, 2024. We look forward to welcoming you to the restaurant next door.’

Based on this, it looks as though their seafood-themed restaurant will be staying put. Nonetheless, this signals the end of its market. Interestingly, the shop did not mention why it closed which could be to do with personal or financial reasons. According to local rumors, the closure could have to do with the retirement of the owner and the possible sale of the building. However, this has not been confirmed and should be treated as speculation at this point.

The Courthouse Seafood Market has been serving up fresh seafood in Cambridge since 1912 and first opened its doors in the East Cambridge neighborhood, which was historically known for its strong Portuguese community. The market also sells a variety of fresh seafood-related products, such as oysters, clams, and lobster.
