Salut Bar Americain on Grand Ave is set to close on January 8. According to management, this closure was accelerated by reduced traffic and nearby closures which led to a domino effect. With the lease expiring this month, the eatery’s management company, Parasole Restaurant Holdings decided to avoid their renewal. This comes after rumors that Grand Avenue put rents up by three times their current price, resulting in a number of closing restaurants. At this point in time, it is not known what will replace Salut.
Salut has been a favorite among locals since it first opened its doors in 2008. The restaurant offers a range of French classics, from oysters on the half-shell to burgers and fries, as well as an impressive selection of cocktails and wine. Its spacious patio and daily happy hour have made it a popular spot for brunch, lunch, and dinner.
As a result, it was often viewed as one of the best French restaurants in Saint Paul and earned a stellar reputation among locals. For now at least, the restaurant remains open for one last week. So, if you want to visit one last time then there are 7 more days remaining. Perhaps bigger than Salut, this also highlights the changing landscape of Grand Ave and its future.
