The city of Columbus prepares to bid farewell to a cherished longstanding institution: Thurn’s Specialty Meats, operating for 138 years at 530 Greenlawn Avenue. Last week, through a heartfelt letter to valued customers and an announcement on Instagram, the Thurn family, currently under the stewardship of fourth-generation proprietor Albert Thurn, shared the decision to close the family business due to well-deserved retirement.

News of the impending closure was mentioned on an Instagram post that read: ‘With a heavy heart and after much serious consideration, Thurn’s Specialty Meats is announcing the closure of the retail store due to retirement. The final day will be Saturday May 25th, 2024. We wish you all the very best in the future and hope that you will hold fond memories of Thurn’s Specialty Meats for many years to come. Auf Wiedersehen.’

Thurn’s Specialty Meats has served the Columbus community with exceptional German-style homemade meats and sausages for over a century. Notably, Albert Thurn took the reins of the family legacy in 1988, upholding the tradition of exceptional craft and customer service established by generations before him.

The final day of operation for the retail shop is scheduled for May 25th, marking the bittersweet conclusion of a remarkable culinary chapter in Columbus’ history.
