Beloved Sacramento cafe permanently closes just days before New Year

Effective December 29th, 2023, the La Bou Bakery & Cafe located at 849 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 101, in West Sacramento, has permanently ceased operations. The closure marks the end of a seven-year chapter for the franchise owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Garcia, who acquired the location in 2016.

As part of a larger bakery-cafe chain with approximately twelve establishments across the greater Sacramento area, La Bou West Sacramento offered a diverse menu featuring breakfast pastries, coffee, hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, and soups. While the local business enjoyed relative success prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Garcia cites a persistent decline in customer traffic attributed to the shift towards remote work as the primary factor leading to the closure.

La Bou Bakery & Cafe is a beloved institution in Sacramento, known for its delicious baked goods, savory sandwiches, and cozy atmosphere. With multiple locations around the city, La Bou is the perfect spot for a quick bite or a leisurely brunch. From their famous croissants and coffee to their freshly made soups and salads, La Bou has earned a solid reputation in the city. So far, it looks as though this is the only location closing. Hopefully, this is not a sign of things to come for the cafe chain.
