One of Chinatown’s most established restaurants has just announced that it will soon be closing for good. The final day of operation for Shiao Lan Kung is set for January 14th and according to a sign made by the restaurant, this is due to the owner deciding to retire.

The Chinese eatery is a favorite among Philadelphia locals and is also one of the longest-standing Chinese restaurants in the city. It has been open for over 30 years which means that it’s not too surprising that the owner finally wants to retire. News of the closure was confirmed by a sign in the restaurant that read: ‘Shiao Lan Kung is retiring. Official last day: 1/14/24. Thanks for your support!’

Over the years, Shiao Lan Kung has earned a stellar reputation with a number of positive reviews. Although news of its closure may be saddening for fans of the joint and definitely ushers in the end of an era, the good news is that it’s not closing just yet. Currently, there are almost three weeks left until it shutters for good.
