Locals delighted as smelly Purina plant finally gets demolished

A few weeks ago, the demolition of one of Oklahoma City’s Purina plants commenced. Since then, it has been reduced to a literal shell of its former self. As seen in the image below, the bulk of the demolition has been completed, with a few remains still intact. The plant had stood in Oklahoma City for decades and locals have recently expressed their delight to see its destruction.

The reason for this is a simple one. As you can imagine, creating pet food can be a smelly business. This is quite literal and this meant that the surrounding area suffered a pungent smell which was often heightened in the summer months due to the heat. It is rather unsurprising then, that locals are glad to see it go. The photo was originally posted on social media, where users expressed their pleasure in its decay.

This Purina plant is located near N Klein Ave and was a major facility for the production of pet food. The plant employed around 250 workers and is owned by Nestle Purina Petcare, one of the largest pet food companies in the world. Currently, it still has another plant in Edmond which is still operational. For now at least, it looks like the Edmond location is staying put which may not be what locals want to hear due to its smell. At this moment in time, it is not known what the other location will be used for.
