Popular bar announces closure – And apparently they didn’t give staff any notice

December 17, 2023 by No Comments

One of Salt Lake City’s most prestigious bars has just announced its temporary closure which came out of the blue. On their Instagram account, Purgatory Bar gave a statement yesterday which read: ‘Purgatory will be closing for renovations on December 17 at 4 PM. Future updates in February 2024. We love and appreciate all that you’ve done for us, and look forward to serving you again soon. Your Purgatory team.’

Intriguingly, this post was not met well by Salt Lake City locals. A number of residents used the comments section to criticize the bar, alleging that staff at the bar were given zero notice about the impending closure. On Instagram, one user said: “The whole industry has heard that you laid off everyone with no notice. I hope your renovation includes some human decency.”

News of the closure was also shared in a Reddit thread that gained over 100 comments. Once again, allegations that the staff weren’t notified were rife. One user claimed that the bar would be opening ‘as something different’ in February. With this said, it also means that Purgatory could be gone forever in its current form.

If these rumors are true then it’s unsurprising that it left a sour taste in the mouths of their customers who weren’t impressed with the supposed treatment of staff. Based on this, it will be interesting to see how the bar performs when it re-opens next year.
