New downtown bar and restaurant opens in Newark – But its location is notoriously tough for businesses
A new restaurant and bar has just opened in downtown Newark. Named Ikoyi, it is based at 11 Clinton St, Newark, NJ 07102, and claims to ‘offer a unique blend of Nigerian, Caribbean, and American cuisine in a modern and upscale atmosphere. Our mission is to provide an exceptional dining and lounge experience that will leave a lasting impression on our guests,’ while also offering live music, brunch, and karaoke.
Based on its social media pages, it definitely looks as though the term ‘upscale’ is in full swing. Clearly, a lot of money has been spent on trying to make this look the part. Despite going all-in, Newark residents will know all too well that this particular spot is a tough gig. Over the years, 11 Clinton St has struggled to nail down businesses permanently. As a result, some residents have even gone as far as to claim that the venue is cursed when it comes to retailers occupying the spot.
Nonetheless, it looks like Ikoyi has got off to a good start. Despite only being open for just over a week, it has a solid Google score of 4.0/5.0 across 40 reviews. With this in mind, it may actually buck the trend and become a permanent spot in an infamously tough location.
