The Tomato Pizza closes after going up in flames

Yesterday, one of Denton’s oldest pizzerias suffered a very unfortunate event. During the afternoon, the eatery was set alight which turned into a substantial fire. The fire was caught on camera and video which showed the extent of the damage.

Thankfully for the restaurant, the Denton fire crew was quick on the scene to make sure the fire didn’t spread. Nonetheless, substantial damage was still done. Speaking on their Instagram page hours later, Tomato Pizza wrote: ‘Sorry, we’re closed indefinitely. More details soon.’ Based on this, it could re-open within a matter of days or even months, depending on a variety of financial and logistical issues. Hopefully, it is the former, and returns to normal operations as soon as possible.

The Tomato Pizza is a beloved local spot, known for its pizza and its nostalgic vibe. The restaurant has a long history in the Denton community, originally opening as The Flying Tomato in 1984. Over the years, it evolved into The Tomato Pizza, but it still maintains its college-town feel and has become a favorite spot for students, locals, and visitors alike. The menu includes a variety of pizza toppings, as well as salads and other side dishes. Based on this, it’s fair to give Tomato Pizza veteran status within the Denton food scene.
