Connecticut Says Goodbye To Well-Liked Cinema Chain In Enfield Square Mall

December 11, 2023 by No Comments

After rumors of a closure leaked online last month, Cinemark has shut down its permanent location in Enfield Square Mall. This seems to have been a situation where Cinemark could not meet eye-to-eye with the mall owner about lease agreements, rather than any financial problems.

Additionally, discussions surrounding the sale of the Enfield Square Mall, which town officials have noted has faced deteriorating conditions under its current owner, New York-based Namdar Realty Group, have been ongoing. While progress was made in negotiations with a potential buyer, former Town Manager Ellen Zoppo-Sassu expressed frustration with the delays in finalizing the purchase and sale agreement. Originally projected to conclude by the end of September, the process has encountered unforeseen setbacks and still has not been completed.

However, if you thought the Cinemark chain was struggling, you would be mistaken. After opening 85 cinemas in 2020, Cinemark still operates over 500 in the United States alone. Even though cinemas are not at the height of their popularity, it seems Cinemark knows exactly what they are doing when it comes down to business.

“Cinemark can confirm it has permanently closed its Enfield Square 12 theater following the conclusion of its lease term. This closure is a normal course of business and the result of the careful and ongoing review of our theater fleet,” a Cinemark representative claimed.
