For 52 years, the beloved eatery on the Upper West Side delighted patrons with its unique Cuban-Chinese fusion cuisine at the intersection of 78th and Broadway. However, in 2020, it bid farewell. The highly anticipated revival of this cherished establishment has finally made its grand debut, now located at 130 West 72nd Street, nestled between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues (credit to Christopher Yera for the insight).

Although under new ownership, the restaurant’s menu remains largely faithful to its original offerings. Yet, some subtle adjustments have been made, including the removal of a few less-popular items and the introduction of some fresh additions like boiled steak, fish fillet, and grilled shrimp.

The restaurant has also undergone a few alterations in its decor. The iconic red walls of the original venue have been replaced with white brick walls adorned with artwork, departing from the former practice of displaying images of menu items. In terms of lighting, La Caridad 72 has opted for a more conventional approach, departing from the hundreds of tiny Christmas lights that once adorned La Caridad 78.

Nonetheless, the restaurant remains committed to its heritage. Upon stepping inside, patrons are warmly welcomed by a substantial wooden sign bearing the inscription, “Welcome to La Caridad, Comidas Chinas y Criolla, Serving the Upper West Side Since 1968.”

Operating hours for La Caridad 72 are Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
