Mike DeWine announces college scholarship program – But not everyone is convinced
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently announced the introduction of a college scholarship program. However, not everyone was convinced as to whether it would work. Overall, it’s been a tough year for DeWine who may have been hoping that moves like this would help his public relations. However, it wasn’t that simple and some viewed it with cynicism.
DeWine originally announced this scholarship on Twitter and wrote: ‘Today, I announced the launch of the Governor’s Merit Scholarship Program in collaboration with @OhioHigherEd. With so many world-class higher education institutions in Ohio, we want to encourage all students to stay in-state as they continue their education and transition into careers.’
Replying to this, one user said: “Tell your GOP conference to stop attempting to subvert the will of the people and you wouldn’t have all sorts of young talent leaving Ohio.”
Elsewhere, a user named Emily Strausbaugh claimed: “I’m very confused. You say you want to encourage all students but only have this open to students in the top 5%.”
In fairness, these are both relevant counterarguments that may undermine the main point of DeWine’s scholarship. Unfortunately for him, these were just a few of many replies that questioned the validity of the scholarship and its effectiveness.
