Springfield Residents Left Disappointed As Popular Burger Joint Closes At White Oaks Mall
Five Guys Burgers and Fries recently closed its doors at White Oaks Mall after a decade of operation in that location. This has left many residents disappointed as the nearest Five Guys to Springfield is now over 1 hour’s drive away from this location. The closure left the space formerly occupied by Kerasotes Theatres, which had shut down in 2008, vacant.
Five Guys initially established its presence in 2013, offering customers the opportunity to customize their burgers with various toppings. Their menu featured a straightforward selection of items, including burgers, fries, hot dogs, milkshakes, and beverages.
Ward 7 Alderman Brad Carlson, who represents the mall on the Springfield City Council, expressed unawareness regarding the exact reasons for the closure. However, he noted that the presence of Malibu Jack’s indoor theme park and the ongoing construction of the new Illinois Environmental Protection Agency headquarters at the mall could present opportunities for prospective businesses.
Following the closure at White Oaks, the burger chain still maintains 40 locations across Illinois, with the nearest one located in Normal, approximately 70 minutes north of Springfield.
