Grit City Books, currently operating as an online bookstore, plans to establish a physical store at 3116 Sixth Ave. in the spring of 2024. This expansion marks the next chapter for the bookstore, which initially launched its online operations in November 2023.

The new brick-and-mortar location will occupy a portion of the ground-level commercial space within the Sixth & Alder Apartments complex, providing a welcoming and accessible space for book enthusiasts to explore the bookstore’s diverse collection. The move to a physical storefront will allow Grit City Books to foster deeper connections with the Tacoma community, hosting author events, book clubs, and other literary gatherings.

With the shared goal of creating a vibrant and inclusive literary hub, the three co-founders of Grit City Books, Jeff Hanway, Kegan Hanway, and Kaitlin Chandler, are excited to bring their vision to life in the new Sixth Ave. location. Their passion for books and their commitment to serving the local community will undoubtedly make Grit City Books a cherished addition to Tacoma’s cultural landscape.

Tacoma has a range of bookstores that cater to different tastes and interests. King’s Books is a long-standing independent bookstore that carries everything from bestsellers to rare and out-of-print titles. Barnes & Noble is a familiar chain bookstore with a cozy cafe and a large selection of books, music, and gifts. Half Price Books is a used bookstore with a huge selection of discounted books and other media.
