New Indian Restaurant to open in Nashville

The former J. Christopher’s breakfast and lunch restaurant space in Hillsboro Village is set to transform into an Indian cuisine outpost by early 2024. Akki Grover, co-owner of Donelson’s Sindoore Indian restaurant, will bring his culinary expertise to the brick structure located at 2100 21st Ave. S., a few blocks south of the Village’s commercial hub.

While Grover is still finalizing the dining concept, he is considering offering a unique “plated buffet” option, where servers bring individual plates featuring an assortment of Northern Indian cuisine delicacies. This approach mirrors Sindoore’s successful plated buffet model, which garnered Yelp’s recognition as one of the nation’s top restaurants in 2021.

Nashville architectural firm Jenner Design is overseeing the renovation of the 21st Avenue building. Shirley Horowitz, an interior designer, and her husband, Dr. David Horowitz, a dermatologist, own the property through an LLC. Lease terms remain undisclosed.

Hillsboro Village’s last Indian restaurant venture, located at The Village at Vanderbilt commercial building on 21st Avenue South, reportedly closed in the mid-2000s. The arrival of Jashan marks a revival of Indian cuisine in this vibrant neighborhood. Due to its ambitious owner, it looks as though Nashville could go on to gain more Indian eateries if this venue proves successful as well.
