Iconic Austin Restaurant to close after 23 years of business

December 1, 2023 by No Comments

Yesterday evening, one of Austin’s most established restaurants announced that it was closing for good. Its closure was announced on Facebook and the closure was effective immediately. Here, Opal Divine’s wrote: ‘We’d like to thank everyone for the last 23 years of patronage. We have for all intents and purposes ceased operations as of 11/30/2023. A core of bar staff remains and is running the bar for the new tenants while they transition through a remodel. Y’all come out and take care of Jo, Jon, Jackie, and Evan while you can!’

Based on this, it looks as though the venue will continue to operate in some capacity as a bar until it undergoes a full remodel down the line.

Due to the nature of the announcement, it is not known why Opal Divine’s suddenly closed. With this being said, the closure could have either been due to financial or personal reasons. Originally founded in 2000, Opal Divine’s went on to survive various recessions, a pandemic, and other issues. Nonetheless, it looks like today is the end of the road.

A popular bar and grill in Austin, Opal Divine’s is known for its craft beer, whiskey, and all-natural food menu. The menu features a variety of American dishes, including char-grilled Angus beef, brunch options, and handmade cocktails.
