New Brewery to open in Portland next year

November 29, 2023 by No Comments

Nevada native Ryan Dunlap is breathing new life into the former Banded Brewing tasting room in Bayside, Maine, with his new venture, Argenta Brewing Company. The name Argenta pays homage to a short-lived Old West silver mine that operated in the Nevada desert around 1860. The mine, now a ghost town, held a special connection for Dunlap, as it was the namesake of his college dorm.

Dunlap brings extensive brewing experience to Argenta, having honed his craft at Atlantic Brewing in Bar Harbor and Fore River Brewing in South Portland. His passion lies in German-style lagers, which were once a staple in American breweries but declined in popularity following World War II.

With Argenta Brewing Company, Dunlap aims to revive the tradition of German-style lagers, offering a taste of history in a modern and welcoming setting. The brewery will specialize in classic lagers like pilsners, helles, and märzens, all crafted with traditional techniques and high-quality ingredients.

Argenta is scheduled to open its doors in the spring of 2024, bringing a unique brewing experience to the Bayside neighborhood. Beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike can look forward to enjoying a variety of lagers in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of the once-thriving lager saloons of the 19th century.
