After nearly five decades of serving authentic Cuban cuisine and fostering a sense of community in Silver Lake, Café Tropical has bid farewell. A handwritten note posted on the café’s window announced the closure, effective December 1, 2023. The note can be seen in full detail below.

The note, signed by the Tropical Staff and Management, expressed heartfelt gratitude to patrons for their unwavering support over the years. Café Tropical, acquired in 2019 by the owners of El Cochinito and Bolita, became an integral part of the Cuban trio, collectively showcasing the vibrant flavors of Cuban cuisine.

A similar closure notice was displayed at El Cochinito, while Google lists all three establishments as closed. However, the businesses have yet to make official announcements on their social media platforms. Bolita’s Instagram account indicates a recent reduction in operating hours.

El Cochinito, renowned for its savory dishes and inviting ambiance, held a special place in the hearts of Silver Lake residents. Bolita, also inspired by Cuban traditions, offered an array of Cuban-inspired cocktails. Café Tropical’s menu featured delectable medianoche sandwiches, guava cheese pastries, and aromatic coffee, all prepared with a touch of Cuban authenticity. At this point in time, it is not known what will be replacing the establishment.
