Kathy Hochul blasted over wind energy initiatives

New York City Governor Kathy Hochul recently took to her Twitter account to claim that the first offshore wind turbine had been installed in New York state. Here, she wrote: ‘The first @SouthForkWindturbine has been installed, and offshore wind has officially arrived in New York State! What does the energy future look like? The answer is blowing in the wind.’

This prompted a response by numerous constituents with nearly 200 comments in total. Unfortunately for Hochul, many of these people disagreed with her and believed that wind energy could potentially damage the environment. Some even claimed that she should focus on nuclear energy instead.

Replying on Twitter, one user claimed: “Everywhere the US has installed turbines, they’ve had serious issues, not including the harm caused to the sea life. In 5 years these will be shut down and inoperable. Great job though!”

Similarly, another user added: “What are the long-term impacts on biodiversity in that area of the ocean? Studies from other turbine areas don’t look good.”

Sadly, there have been ample studies showing that offshore wind farms can destroy the local environment and wildlife, which begs the question of why they are being built. Nonetheless, it looks like this project has no signs of stopping anytime soon.
