Iconic Grocery store founded in 1881 to finally close

Oakville Grocery, a well-loved gourmet food market in the San Francisco Bay Area, is set to shut down its Healdsburg, California outlet. The closure is scheduled for November 26th, following the Thanksgiving weekend. At this point in time, it has not been revealed as to why the grocery closed.

Located in the prime wine region of Sonoma, close to the Russian River area, the Healdsburg store has been a favorite among wine lovers and tourists. It offered an ideal spot for picking up a quick, delicious picnic to enjoy at the nearby Healdsburg wineries.

The grocery provided a more relaxed dining alternative compared to the more upscale and expensive restaurants in this charming Northern California town. The Healdsburg branch of Oakville Grocery had been serving customers for over 25 years but the shop has deeper roots dating back to 1881. With this said, it’s fair to say that the grocery was culturally historic within the Bay Area.

Reports suggest that this location will be taken over by another local gourmet retailer already established in Sonoma County. The original Oakville Grocery store, a favorite for many traveling along Highway 29 towards Napa’s wineries, will continue to operate. Nonetheless, news of this particular closure will still come as bad news to locals.
