Raleigh resident calls it ‘dystopia’ for $60 EMS subscription service

An image recently went viral on social media that showed an EMS pamphlet that read: ‘In an emergency, the last thing you should worry about is paying for the ambulance. $60 per year covers your whole household.’ The person who photographed the flyer captioned it by writing: ‘We live in a dystopia. A subscription for EMS!?’

In case you didn’t pick up the tone of the caption, they clearly weren’t happy with having to pay for an ambulance subscription. In many US cities and states, ambulances do not require a subscription fee which may be where the source of the photographer’s anger came from. The flyer was originally posted by Wake County to addresses across Raleigh and can be seen in detail below.

News of the flyer went viral and was posted on Reddit where it gained over 300 comments. Here, some argued that it wasn’t a bad service while others brandished it shameless. Here, one user wrote: “Well worth it. $60 covers your family; zero charge in the event you require hospital transportation. We re-up every year and it has saved us thousands. “In addition to your family’s coverage, all the money from your subscription membership is returned to Wake EMS. This provides valuable operating funds to ensure the continued high level of emergency medical care that you have come to expect.”

One user also claimed that this had been going on since the 90s and wasn’t new. Nonetheless, some Raleigh residents are unimpressed by the thought of having to pay for ambulance trips.
