Popular Restaurant to close next month after 18 years of business

Joe Squared, a popular eatery and entertainment spot in Baltimore City, recently announced that it will be closing by the end of this year. This comes 18 years after the restaurant first opened back in 2018.

For almost two decades, Joe Squared has been a cornerstone in the Station North neighborhood, celebrated for its unique pizza, vibrant music scene, and strong support for local artists. The restaurant gained national attention in 2014 after being featured on Guy Fieri’s show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

The closure decision is a result of financial challenges faced during the pandemic, which left Nic Johnson, the vice president of the restaurant’s worker-owned collective, exploring options to keep the business afloat.

Joe Squared’s closure is part of a larger trend of local restaurants struggling to recover post-COVID-19, a situation mirrored by The Local Oyster, which also closed its two locations recently.

The restaurant attributes its decision to cease operations to a combination of decreased patronage, rising costs, and limited resources in the current post-pandemic industry environment.

Despite the impending closure, Joe Squared will continue to host private events and accept bookings until the end of the year. They also plan to announce additional special events in the near future, as indicated on their social media platforms. At this point in time, it is not known what will replace the Joe Square’d space.
