Ned Lamont lambasted online for Connecticut job growth claims

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont was recently lambasted online for claims surrounding the Connecticut job market. Here, he took to Twitter to boast that the state had its lowest unemployment numbers in 20 years and that the local economy was being built on this momentum. However, not everyone was in agreement with the governor.

Here, he wrote: ‘With continued job growth, private sector employment in CT is now at an all-time high and unemployment at a 20-year low. Employers have more than 66,000 job openings. This is good news for our economy, and we remain dedicated to building on this momentum.’

As is often the case with stats and numbers, they can only represent part of the story and some used this as a reminder for Lamont to highlight his flaws in looking after Connecticut.

Replying to his initial optimism, one user claimed: “Still not back to 2008 employment that was 15 years ago. Kids born then will enter the workforce next year. That is how long it’s been. Connecticut is a dying state. Get out while you can.”

Similarly, another user named Joan Lownds quipped: “Then why don’t you invest in community colleges, instead of shamefully cutting our budgets to the bone, slashing library hours and tutoring services, and even closing cafeterias? Take a cue from Maura Healey who has substantially increased this budget-our future.”

Unfortunately for Lamont, many other comments echoed these claims, while others also moaned about struggling to find work. Clearly, not everyone agreed with his positivity.
