Bearno’s Pizza, a fixture in downtown Louisville for 26 years near the intersection of 2nd and Main streets, is set to close its doors. However, the popular pizza spot won’t be absent from downtown Louisville for long.

Known as Bearno’s By The Bridge, the current location at 131 W. Main St. is scheduled to close in mid-December. It will be moving a few blocks away to Market Street, according to George Timmering, the managing partner, who shared the news with the Courier Journal.

The new establishment, Bearno’s on Market, will occupy the former location of Southern Restaurant & Lounge at 301 W. Market St. This site was previously closed following a shooting in August during a farewell event, which resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.

Timmering expressed his hope that Bearno’s relocation will mark a fresh start for the 301 W. Market St. location. He oversees the chain’s 13 locations and anticipates a smooth transition from Main Street to Market Street within a few days in December. The current staff of 25 employees is expected to continue working at the new site.

After undergoing renovations, the new Bearno’s on Market will accommodate approximately 150 guests, similar to its current capacity. The proposed operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
