LA Restaurant blasted online after cake cutting fee and 20% service charge added to certain tables

A Los Angeles restaurant was recently put on blast by a disgruntled customer who shared their policy online which showed added fees for certain services. The photo in question showed a 20% service charge added for parties of 6 or more, as well as a bread service for $3 per table. It also included a cake-cutting fee of $3 per person.

News of the fees quickly went viral on Reddit where hundreds of users condemned the additions. The original poster also referenced the restaurant as Orto in Santa Monica.

Here, the uploader also wrote: ‘Pastas in the $25-30 range. (Add $4 for gluten free.) Mains around $50. It looks so cheap and petty it makes me not want to go there. (I realize that’s an empty threat.)’ Clearly, they weren’t happy.

Interestingly, just a few days ago, another LA eatery was also called out for adding charges for cake cutting. In fairness, the $3 bread fee is another way of wording the price of bread for $3. However, these rules also mean that if you had a party of 10 people, you would pay $30 for cake cutting as well as a 20% service charge. Many high-end restaurants in Los Angeles have often implemented a cake-cutting fee but this still clearly irritates certain parts of their customer base.
