The Gold’s Gym situated off Hendersonville Road in South Asheville is set to close its doors on December 15, as communicated in an email to the gym’s members.

The closure of this particular gym has been attributed to the evolving needs of the local area. In the same notification, members were informed about upcoming renovations and updates at the existing Gold’s Gym locations on Patton Avenue and Oakley Plaza.

This information was shared publicly after Benjamin Dockery, a member of Gold’s Gym, provided the members with a copy of the email.

According to the announcement, memberships at the Hendersonville Road gym will be automatically transferred to the Oakley Plaza location. Members also have the option to switch their membership to the West Asheville gym on Patton Avenue. Additionally, personal training contracts will be moved to a new location.

Gold’s Gym operates a total of 12 locations across North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina.

The property at 1815 Hendersonville Road, owned by Asheville-based developer Pulliam Properties, was discussed in a preliminary meeting with Asheville city staff on October 24. These early assistance meetings are initial steps and do not necessarily reflect final decisions.

The South Asheville branch of Gold’s Gym opened in 2014, taking over the space previously occupied by The Rush Fitness Complex. Before it became a gym, the site was home to a Bi-Lo Grocery store, a chain that closed its last locations in 2021.
