Taft’s Ale House is having its final round of service. Taft Brewing Co. announced on Monday that its Ale House location will be closing after eight years of being a part of the Over-the-Rhine community.

The closure, set for Saturday, Nov. 25, has been attributed to several factors. These include the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, a sharp decrease in tourism, and rising costs for materials. Since the onset of the pandemic, Taft’s has experienced a substantial drop in sales, as detailed in a press release. News of their closure was also referenced on their Facebook page where they said: “We are very deeply saddened to announce the upcoming closure of Taft’s Ale House. We’ve made the painfully difficult decision to close our beautiful flagship location after 8 years of serving the OTR community.”

Taft’s Ale House first opened its doors on April 6, 2015, coinciding with Opening Day. The establishment is located in the former St. Paul’s German Evangelical Protestant Church at 1429 Race St. This 220-seat venue boasted impressive 46-foot high ceilings, a grand chandelier, high arched windows, an abundance of dark wood, and over 25,000 Rookwood tiles.

Erin Weinert, the Director of Communications, mentioned in a statement that Taft’s has proactively informed its staff about the upcoming closure. The company is committed to providing severance pay to each employee. Moreover, Taft’s is exploring opportunities to offer new positions to its employees at their Brewpourium locations and within their contract beverage business.
