The Benson Group’s Faubourg Brewing Co., recognized as New Orleans’ oldest brewery, is undergoing a consolidation of its operations at its New Orleans East facility.

Made by the Water, the primary owner and operator of Faubourg Brewing Co. since their merger in September 2022, disclosed on Tuesday (Nov. 14) their plan to downsize production activities at the brewery near the high-rise. The company indicated that a significant portion of its brewing processes will now be carried out at alternate locations, though not exclusively.

As a result of this shift, Made by the Water has acknowledged that there will be some job reductions, but the exact number has not been specified.

One of the key reasons behind this reduction in manufacturing operations is the increasing cost of water, as noted in the company’s announcement. Councilman Oliver Thomas is actively involved in mediating discussions between Made by the Water and the Sewerage and Water Board (SWBNO).

SWBNO has expressed that it maintains a positive relationship with Mrs. Benson, frequently discussing ways to enhance business operations. Thomas has committed to continuing these important dialogues.

Gayle Benson, the owner of the Saints and Pelicans, has a stake in the brewery and played a role in its inception. Made By The Water, a company with a footprint in the Southeast, operates several craft breweries including Oyster City in Apalachicola, FL, Catawba in Asheville, NC, and Palmetto in Charleston, SC.
