Yesterday, a video went viral for all the wrong reasons. Originally posted in a Memphis subreddit, it showed dozens of locals shoplifting an Airways Express gas station. Here, thieves had quite literally parked their cars outside the store before running in multiple times to steal as much as possible. This looked like a premeditated hit and the store could have lost thousands of dollars worth of stock during the process.

During the video, many of the thieves brazenly showed off their ill-gotten gains. At one point, the cameraman even said: ‘He’s got noodles, hell nah,’ while callously laughing at the situation.

In one thread, over 200 people commented and condemned the robbery. Here, one user added: “What can be done to stop this? Lots of things. What will be done to stop this? That location will shut down when it’s no longer profitable.”

These days, shoplifting is unfortunately a pretty common issue in Memphis. This problem affects many retailers, including big box stores like Walmart and Target as well as smaller stores. There have been multiple incidents of people shoplifting televisions and other electronics from these stores in the city. While it’s hard to estimate the exact rate of shoplifting in Memphis, it’s safe to say that it’s an ongoing issue that affects both businesses and the community as a whole.
