Popular Chinese Restaurant re-opens after closing for months
Wah Fung No. 1 Fast Food, a popular destination in Chinatown for roast pork, has recently reopened following a prolonged shutdown. Situated at 79 Chrystie Street, near Hester Street, the restaurant had been closed since May due to issues attributed to a gas leak in the storefront, as stated by John Siu, a representative of the eatery.
Throughout the closure since May, the restaurant frequently updated its Instagram bio to indicate its ongoing closure. Known for its cash-only service, Wah Fung No. 1 Fast Food is celebrated for its generous servings of char siu and duck, typically served over rice with cabbage on the side. The eatery is distinguished by its red awning, which often sees lines of devoted customers.
Over the years, this restaurant received positive reviews and is viewed by many as one of New York City’s best Asian restaurants.
The business recently shared an image on its Instagram to announce the reopening, showing that the establishment has maintained its familiar appearance as well as the same original management team. The reopening has been met with enthusiasm from the local community, including neighboring Cantonese restaurant Uncle Lou, who have expressed their congratulations to Wah Fung No. 1 Fast Food in the comments section of the post. Clearly, its absence was well noted.
