Popular Portland Cafe permanently closes after 13 years of business

Yesterday, Pepper Box Cafe abruptly announced that they had permanently closed. This announcement was made on their Instagram page where they thanked customers and apologized for closing at short notice. It was also accompanied by an image that said ‘Roast in Peace, Est. 2010’.

Over the years, Pepper Box had earned a top reputation as one of the best Mexican eateries in Portland which offered breakfast tacos and homemade tortillas. As a result, foodies in the area will undoubtedly be sad to see it go.

In full, their announcement said: ‘Good morning everyone. Thanks for the love and support. Couldn’t have made it through all the years without all of you. I’m very grateful. Pepper Box will be permanently closed, starting today, November 10th. Sorry for the short notice, and thank you all so very much, again.’

As seen, the statement didn’t explain why the closure happened. With this said it could have been either financially or personally motivated. Clearly though, it will leave a big hole in the Portland food scene.

Pepper Box started as a food truck on the Portland streets in 2003 before becoming a brick-and-mortar location in 2010. This means that it spent over 20 years serving fresh Mexican food to the city. At this moment in time, it is not known what will replace the venue.
