Fans of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in the Milwaukee area will soon have the opportunity to enjoy flavors like Cherry Garcia and The Tonight Dough directly from a local shop. A franchisee of the Vermont-based brand is set to open Milwaukee’s first scoop shop at 203 N. Broadway, located in the Historic Third Ward. This will also be Wisconsin’s inaugural Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop.

The new ice cream shop will be situated on the ground floor of the InterLace Lofts building, spanning about 1,000 square feet, in a vibrant part of the neighborhood.

Margaret Martin, who owns this building, also owns the neighboring property where MOD GEN is located.

Ben & Jerry’s, famous for its rich, flavor-packed pints, started as a small ice cream stand in 1978, founded by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. By 2020, the company had grown significantly, producing 194,164,352 pints annually in the U.S. and selling in 36 countries globally.

Plans for the upcoming Ben & Jerry’s location include a series of commercial renovations, as detailed in the documents submitted to the city on Thursday. MSI General, an architecture firm, is in charge of these alterations, which are estimated to cost $395,000.

Before opening, the business will require a food dealer’s license, for which no applications have been filed as of this report.
