Casey’s General Stores, headquartered in Iowa, has acquired 22 Lone Star Food convenience stores situated in Dallas’ rapidly expanding towns. The company plans to introduce its renowned breakfast and supreme pizzas to Texas.

As the third-largest convenience store chain and fifth-largest pizza chain in the U.S., Casey’s aims to rebrand these North Texas outlets, viewing this acquisition as a stepping stone for expansion across Texas.

The Lone Star Stores were bought from Douglass Distributing, a Sherman-based family-owned oil and gas company known in the convenience store sector for its well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms.

Recently, Douglass announced the sale of its propane, lubricant, and wholesale and commercial fuel businesses to Offen Petroleum. The company, originally Humble Oil, was acquired in 1981 by Bill Douglass, CEO of W. Douglass Distributing, when he took over the Exxon consignee in Sherman.

These Lone Star stores are located in several cities including Sherman, Denison, Princeton, McKinney, Sunnyvale, Allen, Bells, Van Alstyne, Gainesville, Bartonville, and Denton.

Casey’s notes that its self-distribution network extends to Texas. This expansion marks Casey’s entrance into its 17th state, positioning it among its largest competitors: Irving-based 7-Eleven, the largest U.S. convenience store chain, and Lake Jackson-based Buc-ee’s, which is actively constructing new stores outside of Texas.
