The renowned San Francisco bakery known for its unique $18 purple sourdough was struck by thieves during a nighttime heist, leaving the proprietor with a hefty bill in the tens of thousands to restore order.

Azikiwee Anderson, the proprietor of Rize Up Bakery, is piecing his business back together after burglars invaded the establishment on Monday evening, making off with various items including several iPads, cash tins, a laptop filled with private data, art pieces, and more.

Early Tuesday, authorities were alerted to the break-in at the bakery’s location on Howard Street, as per municipal records. The estimated losses and damage from the theft are reported to exceed $20,000. Clearly, this was a big blow for the business.

Through an Instagram message, Anderson has shown immense thanks for the community’s overwhelming response and support. In response to this support, individuals have been generously sending donations to the bakery’s Venmo account.

Rize Up Bakery has been located in San Francisco for several years and is also known for its political activism as well as its fine-tasting bread.

Back in January, Anderson discussed the challenges of running Rize Up Bakery with an approximate 20-person team, focusing on maintaining fair wages amidst escalating costs for raw materials and quality control.
