This week saw the opening of Jungle Fowl which is located at 345 Van Buren. If you think you recognize the address then you’re probably right. This is because it previously homed Meji, whose owners decided to close up and re-open as a new concept. Despite Meji being a favorite with Eugene locals, it turns out that Jungle Fowl has also opened to rave reviews. When thinking about it, this makes sense considering the context.

The food offers chicken skewers, gravy rice, buffalo chicken, and miso eggs among others. As for the drinks, the majority of liquors have been replaced with wines, however, you can still get a chicken broth martini which is as bizarre as it sounds. More information can be found here.

Having said this, the main drinks have all remained, including Jungle Fowl (obviously). In terms of the decor, it now has a large cage chandelier with a chicken, as well as chicken paintings. However, not much has changed.

Overall, Jungle Fowl’s presence is certainly a welcome one in the Eugene food scene. While local foodies may have sighed when Meji went, it looks as though this new venture could potentially be an improvement. Currently, Jungle Fowl is open 5-11 pm and is closed on Wednesdays.
