If you’ve been to 580 Fruitvale offramp lately then you may have seen this bizarre rock formation. This recently appeared and has a collection of bricks and rocks piled on top of each other to form weird shapes and small towers.

At first glance, you may think this may be the work of a mentally ill person or some kind of magic ritual. However, it’s much more tame than this. These rocks are the result of a local artist who has transformed the area into something akin to a community garden space.

News of the formation was shared on Reddit, where one user wrote: “I can’t speak to what’s pictured here in particular but my neighbor makes a lot of the art at this on-ramp. As OP stated, if you actually go past it, it looks a lot nicer than any of the other little bits of land next to onramps that are presumably owned by CalTrans. I appreciate the effort he and others have put into making what is often treated as throwaway space into a little community parklet.”

Overall, this is a nice change of scenery in Oakland. Typically, many people think of Oakland to be fairly urban without spaces like this. With this in mind, it’s good to see some creativity and something a bit different.
