Last night, the Lincoln sky lit up with a breathtaking display of nature’s artwork – Mammatus clouds. These rare and peculiar-looking formations, with their bulging, drooping pouches hanging beneath a larger cloud base, were set aglow with a captivating orange hue, leaving residents in awe.

Despite their otherworldly appearance, Mammatus clouds are simply a phenomenon caused by cold, dense air descending through warmer air. But this rare combination of red colors and formations made for a truly enchanting experience. It’s no wonder that Lincoln residents were quick to document this surreal event on their phones.

The photo above was originally uploaded to Reddit and was compared to Mount Doom from the Lord Of The Rings series. One user added: “It was difficult for me to keep my eyes on the trail while riding my bike. Just gorgeous!”

Part of what makes the above photo so special is the red backdrop in the background which gets less intense as the clouds get nearer. Despite looking like something from a sci-fi movie, this was yet another normal day in Lincoln. Because of this, there could be an argument made that Lincoln has some of the best weather in the city as far as natural beauty is concerned.
