Beloved Cafe & Coffee Shop to close this Saturday

Beans & Barlour, the beloved breakfast and dessert establishment known for its unique cocktails, is set to say farewell to St. Petersburg.

Situated at 407 Central Ave. in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, the café announced its impending shutdown on Instagram, declaring that Friday, Nov. 11, will be its final day of operation. Story Stuart, the owner, broke the news to the staff yesterday.

Despite 2023 being the busiest year for the café, Stuart expressed that Beans & Barlour has transitioned from a labor of love to a venture that no longer resonates with her artistic aspirations.

Stuart disclosed her plans for a wedding with her fiancé Steve Bliven at the year’s end, envisioning the next phase of their life together as one free from the daily pressures of running a storefront.

While the physical location of Beans & Barlour is closing, Stuart plans to keep the spirit alive through the business’ Instagram profile, promising to share tutorials and content related to their famed desserts and baked creations.

The establishment first opened its doors in 2018 just a stone’s throw away from its last spot, at 544 1st Ave. N, a space now taken by The Nest, the performance venue of St. Pete Brewing Co.

Beans & Barlour quickly became a staple in the area, initially gaining fame for its spirited, alcohol-laced ice creams and shakes. It later broadened its offerings to include a range of espresso drinks, visually stunning milkshakes, New York bagel-based breakfast sandwiches, seasonal specialties, and an assortment of both sweet and savory pastries.

In a notable achievement in 2021, Beans & Barlour, in collaboration with the Dominican distillery Brugal 1888, set a new Guinness World Record for the ‘Most People Scooping Ice Cream Simultaneously,’ with a total of 327 participants.
