Josh Shapiro criticized after claiming to help small businesses in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was recently criticized for his comments surrounding small businesses in the state. Here, he claimed that his administration was helping them and that as a result, Pennsylvania would also thrive. Specifically, he took to his Twitter account to write: ‘My Administration works hard every day to help small business thrive here in Pennsylvania and position our Commonwealth as a leader in economic development, innovation, and job creation.’ This was accompanied by a slick photograph beneath the caption.
Naturally, not everyone thought the same way as Shapiro. In the replies section, a number of his constituents used the statement to air their grievances.
Replying to this, one user clearly disagreed and said: “Help small business thrive” Dude….you’ve spent two years pounding your chest about dictating how much we should pay our employees….regardless of their skill level. Small businesses can’t compete with big business and their ability to pay employees.”
Another user named Jerry added: “You’ve destroyed our economy along with @TomWolfPA. We’ve not recovered & probably never will. Everywhere I look I see empty stores with no new ones replacing them. We’ve also lost over 30,000 residents because of your failed socialist economic policies.”
Because of these responses (and plenty of similar ones), Shapiro may have wished that he disabled the replies section. From a PR perspective, this was clearly not a good look.
