New Supermarket to open in ex-Rite Aid location

Yesterday evening, a passerby happened to snap a photo of the new Foodtown sign being put onto the building that previously housed Rite Aid. After announcing bankruptcy, Rite Aid has closed numerous branches across the nation.

Now it looks like Astoria’s branch is being replaced with a Foodtown. This won’t be Astoria’s first Foodtown either, as there was previously a location at Steinway Street which has since closed. Currently, Foodtown has over 20 locations across New York City. From a strategic standpoint, this location makes sense considering how big the building is.

News of Foodtown’s arrival was first shared on Reddit where the image was uploaded. Here, users discussed the new arrival, with the majority welcoming it to the community. Having said this, many also preferred Trader Joe’s, which has yet to arrive in Astoria. Regardless, the consensus was that Foodtown is definitely an upgrade on Rite Aid.

Food Town supermarket is a grocery store chain with locations in several cities across the US. The stores offer a wide variety of products, including fresh produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, and more. Some locations even have a deli, hot food bar, and in-store bakery. At this moment in time, it is not known when Foodtown will open or whether it will even be this year.
