New Burger Restaurant to open next week – And locals are already angry at 2% surcharge

Burger and Grain is set to open on Thursday, November 9th, and looks to be a more expensive take on serving burgers in Nashville. This includes a sleek dining area, with a minimalist design and emphasis on high-quality ingredients. While this has generated a buzz among local foodies, it has also rubbed some people up the wrong way. This is because an eagle-eyed resident spotted a 2% surcharge on their website.

While Burger and Grain aren’t the first restaurant to do this, these fees are often met with annoyance by customers. The screenshot of this surcharge was put on Reddit, where it says: ‘A 2% surcharge will be added to all guest checks to provide and support Health Care benefits to all Burger and Grain full-time employees. Kindly let your server know if you would like this removed.’

Interestingly, one user also made a strong point as they wrote: “Is a server considered a full-time employee? Or is the 2% surcharge going to a salaried back office type and the wait staff has to deal with this?” This means that if waiting staff are considered part-time staff, then they wouldn’t be entitled to this cut.

So far, Burger and Grain have not acknowledged this, despite the thread getting nearly 300 comments, with many of them condemning this policy. Here, the consensus was that instead of the surcharge, the prices should have been raised by 2% to make up the difference. Burger and Grain is set to open soon. It will be interesting to see how it gets on.
