Just two days after its grand reopening, a renowned Thai restaurant on the east side is contemplating shutting down permanently due to reported ‘violent incidents.’ Fast Wok had been closed for a year after its owner, Bungon ‘Mama’ Nettles, suffered two strokes.

Upon its reopening on Wednesday, eager customers formed long queues in the parking lot on East Washington St. However, the family has since reported concerning events at the establishment.

Since re-opening, the restaurant announced the closure on its Facebook page. It is not known whether this will be permanent. Here, they wrote: ‘Sad news. We have been open for two days. We have had 5 police calls. The last one caused us to lock our doors. an alleged gun incident. Mama, thank you for everything. But believes she has had enough. Only two days open and violent incidents, fighting, arguing etc each and every day. It never used to be this way. Sorry to pass on this bad news but she said she is closing for good.’

The news, shared on Friday night, has garnered significant attention online, with the post receiving over 2,600 shares. Despite the outpouring of support, Fast Wok mentions that Mama’s primary concern is the safety of her staff. Mama, a staple in the East Side community, has been offering Thai cuisine for three decades. She had even intended to provide complimentary meals this Thanksgiving.
